Child Counselor Protests Homework in Arizona

A child counselor from Arizona who believes that children shouldn’t be given homework before sixth grade has taken to the streets to protest homework. According to azfamily.com, the counselor, who is leading the weeklong protest at a street corner, doesn’t think children should be given homework before sixth grade. “They’re already getting in trouble in school for not being able to sit for six hours,” she said. “Now they’ve gotta come home and do homework. So, now mom is screaming at them to do their homework. It’s slavery is what it is. It’s a horrible job. It’s a six-, seven-, eight-hour job that they’re not getting paid for.”

  1. I was in 5th grade and I had all-nighters. Now, i’m in 6th grade and I have all-nighters that AREN’T ENOUGH TO DO ALL THE WORK! HOMEWORK SUCKS!

  4. I am so sick of homework! My teachers give me almost 3 hours a night and thats for each subject. I have to walk around carrying a backpack that is heavier then me, and when I get home I don’t even use almost any of the books. I used to love to write but now my, hand hurts so much from writing essays that I don’t think I’ll be able to pick up a pencil ever again This year I had to be graded on my notebook and I already had enough to do without adding another meaningless task to my list. I’m really considering asking my mom if I can get taken out of honors its just too much. The scary thing is I’m only in 6th grade.

  6. Homework. The devil in school form. Homework wastes my time and I become SOOOO frustrated. And that 24/5. It so stupid. Like when I posted this message I had to learn 4 STUPID HISTORY LESSONS!!! I had to memorize every single word in around 160 lines. That’s madness. My teacher became so dumb and stupid and horrible!! May homework rot in hell for all eternity.

  7. Child labour laws were passed for a reason! and sending us kids home with stressing amounts of homework says the law means nothing to teachers! Is the well being of this generation not important to you? Us kids are the future but teachers obviously don’t want one!

  12. homework tears people apart and there is no point for when your in school for about 7 hours a day and once you get out they give you more work I have to do at least 3-4 hours of homework a night and I have no time to spend with my family and there always yelling at me because of my teachers not giving it to me so 100% support your protest

  13. Homework isn’t so bad, it’s just how much they give us. If they give you 10-15 minutes a night, it doesn’t matter. But hours and hours of homework a night does matter. We already go to school 5-6 hours a day, why do we need to bring it home too? It’s stupid. If they want us to get all the work done, then just add an extra hour of school. Then, the teachers could help the kids who didn’t understand it, and nobody has to spend all night on homework. I do an art class durning the week, and I always have to rush after the class to get my work done before it’s time for bed. I see kids all the time stuck doing homework all night instead of having fun. It’s not fair. They are turning 10-15 of a little learning into hours of it without a break. It needs to stop.

I am an 8th grade student taking high school classes and I come home to a lot of homework for each class its very stressful.Also since I don’t have a Computer it is hard for me to do computer work.Homework is so stressful and it does not even matter in our grades…some assignments does not even get graded.So why so much.Ever student gets effected by this stress.Classwork barely getting finished and less participation.

  18. This is a very meaningful and important discussion to me. I am in sixth grade already, and I just love how you wrote,”This is a job that they don’t even get paid to do.” It’s so ridiculously true that I regret not doing this type of thing when I was in lower school with my friends or something. Not to mention that we don’t even need the extra stress either. The grades are also going to go on our permanent record, so if we can’t do it because of sports practice, or band, or some other crazy thing, it WILL go on our records. If we miss too many assignments, we may not get into a good college either because of our spoiled records. Not to mention, research shows that stress can cause many problems with your life as well. In conclusion, homework should not be a thing, even less being forced to sit down and do work for an hour (trust me I do have to deal with this every day because of after school care, I know pure torture right?)

  20. Homework causes SO many problems between I and my family. Mom is almost always yelling at us (my siblings and I)
    And it causes lots of problems. Also, I stay up till almost 10:00pm doing homework. When I wake up at 6:00am I’m exhausted! I can’t focus at school! All the homework results in bad grades but NOT doing the homework as well causes bad grades. Ugh- homework SUCKS!
