Here’s a wonderful interview conducted by Diane Rehm with David Elkind, author of the new book, The Power of Play. It’s 50 minutes long and definitely worth listening to.

This interview is, indeed, an excellent one. With today’s focus on so called “global competition”, on school as a team sport, and on behavorist interpretations of motivation, parents, educators and, especially, politicians need exposure to the long established theories of people like Elkind, like Brazelton, like Gardner, like Levine, like Piaget, and like Gesell. Somehow we must save the ideas which are being lost to wrongheaded notions of human development, behavior and motivation.
